On-going : crumbling apartments on Cartier ; En cours : immeuble risque de s'effondrer - Montréal (Le Village)

(screenshot : google streetview)

This made the news last Thursday: Two buildings evacuated over risk of collapse. This is my personal take on this story. Needless to say I'm not shocked or surprised by this on-going situation. (Note: This is a personal anecdote of my observation of the old buildings there, not an actual account of the current situation. If you're too dumb to realize that, you shouldn't be on the internet.) In  August  2013 I took photos on Cartier street and posted about it here and here. I even mentioned in the first link about how many apartments next to the new condo buildings were being renovated on Cartier.

When I was there, I wanted to take photos of the now crumbling apartments making the news (red arrow above). The buildings (plural) were crooked to the point of being surreal but unfortunately there were workers, working on the shoddy renovations, sitting outside smoking and looking miserable. They had a chip on their shoulders the size of Mount-Royal so I couldn't take any photos of the greystones but I did take photos of apartments around it, including the one posted below. That part of the street really looked old and dilapidated, to say the least. I told myself I'll go next summer to see what's going on with those crooked buildings and this is what's happened!

The article at The Gazette starts off with : 'Firefighters said shoddy construction work was probably the reason that a three-floor apartment building was at risk of collapsing early Thursday morning in the eastern part of Montreal.'

Really? Ah!

Vraiment? Ah!
