À Louer / For Rent

12:34 PM

As I took photos all over Montreal this past summer I noticed the numerous 'À Louer / For Rent' signs everywhere, much more than the usual. And these photos were taken in August, after the July 1 moving marathon. This is just a small sample of the number of signs I came across. The first 6 photos are from apartments on Sherbrooke st.. The others are from rue Cartier and from the Plateau.

With so many condos being built I guess it's finally taking its toll on the rental side but the thing is if there are more empty apartments these days why aren't rent prices going down? But for me this all even more bizarre since I've personally seen a lot of condo projects sitting empty months after being completed. So with more empty apartments and empty condos all around why aren't prices, for rentals or condos, going down?

  1. Perhaps an adjustment of rent prices will come soon.

I found an abandoned home in Parc Ex, I think around Wiseman / St Roch which is set to be demolished. The back door was unlocked and surprisingly it appears to be untouched by squatters or kids. I think the house is pretty old despite its new-ish siding. I took some pictures if you're interested, check them out here http://imgur.com/a/QWiw2#0

  2. Thanks for the tip. Great photos. I'll try to check it out but if I can't go there I'll use your photos. Is that ok?
