A few notes...

I'd like to mention a few things:

First - I got a new camera, a Nikon P7100, so you might see some differences with the new photos. I still have my old digital and 35mm cameras, which I'll still be using from time to time but this new camera has been an improvement over the previous digital one because the lens is so much wider, perfect for capturing buildings/architecture/landscapes.

Second - Since I started the blog, I tried to cover neighborhoods or specific areas in order of location and such, until I ran out of photos of those areas, which always caused some delays if I had new/breaking photos from another area. Right now, I'm changing this and I'll be going over different areas randomly. If, after a while, I find that it doesn't work, I'll go back to the old way but now don't be surprised if the blog seems to go all over the place.

Update: Building corner of Peel and Wellington - Griffintown

The gritty building on the corner of Peel and Wellington in Griffintown is already gutted, with only  its facade remaining. A 20-storey building will be built there. They're not wasting any time. Already mentioned here September 2011.

Also, as seen in the picture below, facing the gutted building, the District Griffin sales office has moved from its Peel location (link) to Wellington st.

Greystone building on Ste-Catherine and Cartier - Montréal (Le Village)

This beautiful greystone building on the corner of Ste-Catherine and Cartier in the Village district of Montréal has been derelict since it burned down. Google Streetview shows pretty much the same and the image date is April 2009 so nothing has been done since then.

Condo project on De Lorimier/Parthenais - Montréal

I'm currently sorting out some issues with my computer so I won't be posting much until that's resolved. In the meantime...

New condo project between De Lorimier and Parthenais just next to Jacques Cartier bridge, just at the edge of Le Village. There has been an empty lot there for some time. The two photos at the bottom were taken last fall.

Condo project on Congregation & Wellington - PSC

New condo project on the corner of Congregation and Wellington in Pointe-St-Charles. There used to be an empty lot there. Looking at the same location in Google Maps, this condo project was announced as far back as 2009 and it's only being built right now.

Paco Corp building on Wellington

With big changes to come with the eventual realization of the autoroute Bonaventure project some buildings close to it are currently going through evaluation including the PACO Corp building which is right smack in the middle of it all. My source has told me that the building's future is currently being studied. It's not set to be demolished. The studies is just to see if it's worth keeping it as is.

  This small house set against the building is safe...for now.

CineFilms building on St-Jacques & Irene - Saint-Henri

The CineFilms building, a solid looking building on the corner of St-Jacques and Irene streets in Saint-Henri, is getting a major facelift, including floors added on top of it for new condos. The last image shows how it's supposed to look like.

Nothing much to say except that the first steps of the project have started last fall.

Triplex on Ste-Emilie and Turgeon - Saint-Henri

The triplex on the corner of Ste-Emilie and Turgeon, next to the depanneur, has also been demolished. As you can see in the photos in the Depanneur post below, the triplex was still standing when they demolished the corner store and its adjoining building. A recent quick visit in the neighborhood showed the triplex, which was in bad state for many years, is now also gone. In the photo of the depanneur I took in 2008 you can see that the triplex was missing a porch even back then. The photo above was taken in November 2011.

Landmark depanneur on Ste-Emilie and Bourget - Saint-Henri

This depanneur on the corner of Ste-Emilie and Bourget is (or was) one of the most recognizable landmarks in Saint-Henri but even with that recognition it wasn't enough to save it and the building from demolition. No outcry or anything. Pretty sad. I took the top photo back in June of 2008.

New construction on Turgeon & St-Ambroise - Saint-Henri

New construction on the corner of Turgeon and St-Ambroise in Saint-Henri. Nothing much to report as the new construction has been built on an empty lot/yard. The two top photos are before, taken last fall, and the two bottom photos are current.

Update: Maurice Boyer Pro Shop - Verdun

Nearly 2 months ago I posted about a Used car sales business that closed back in the summer of 2011 in Verdun. I was in the area recently and saw this billboard announcing the new condo project that will be built there.

Before & After on Denonville st - Côte-Saint-Paul

Before and after of a small duplex, now triplex, on Denonville in Côte-St-Paul. Above, image provided by Google Streetview, shows how the building was in 2009. Someone renovated it, divided the single unit on the second floor into two and generally made the whole thing much more beautiful. Great job. Photo below was taken last summer.

Abandoned building on de Laprairie - Pointe-St-Charles

This building on de Laprairie near Augustin Cantin in Pointe-St-Charles has been abandoned since forever. I remember it was abandoned back in the mid-1990s. The Waseskun halfway house for Aboriginal criminals was located there before they moved in the top floor of the old Garda building in Saint-Henri on rue St-Jacques, which was closed at that location a decade ago. The halfway house is now situated in the town of Saint-Alphonse-Rodriguez. And yet the building still looks pretty solid. I love these red brick buildings.

New condos on Augustin Cantin - Pointe-St-Charles

New condo project on Augustin Cantin in Pointe-St-Charles. Yes, this is a new condo building.

I saw the start of the construction last summer but didn't take any photos. So I decided to go back and see how it was progressing. When I was there I had a difficult time finding the "new" condo because where the "new" condo should be there's this old looking thing in its place. And then I realized "Hey, this is the new condo project." Yikes. There are tons of ugly apartment buildings that look like this in the area but they were built in the 1980s!!! Pretty sad when the old garage that used to be there was less of an eyesore. Oh well...

Update: Mac Clinic/New Condo - Pointe-St-Charles

As reported back in July 2011 (link), the location of the old Mac Clinic building (last image) on the corner of Centre and De Conde in Pointe-St-Charles was the construction site for a new condo building last summer (below) which is now pretty much completed (above).

Update: Seracon building gone - Pointe-St-Charles

The Seracon building on St-Patrick street in Pointe-St-Charles is no more. As posted here back in July 2011 (link) it stood empty and abandoned for many years, caught in some sort of legal quagmire. I took these photos 2 weeks ago.

Update: Red brick building/St-Ann condo project - Griffintown

As already mentioned before at VM back in July 2011 here and October 2011 here  demolition of the wide building next to St-Ann park in Griffintown has begun. The third photo shows when it started and the top two photos were taken two weeks ago. The two last photos were taken last summer.
